Dewoitine D.520 C-1 | Azur 1:32

This time I’d like to share one of my latest large-scale works: Dewoitine D.520 No. 73 – 2nd Squadron GC I/3 – Adj. André Carrier – Wez-Thuisy (France) – May 1940. Pilot Adj. André Carrier was killed in this aircraft on 14 May 1940.

The Azur kit – as is typical for Special Hobby, it was a long and arduous journey to obtain a decent miniature. The build was plagued with problems: an average model maker, no resin exhausts (replaced with beautiful metal ones) and no air intake in the kit (added from scratch). The challenge was to provide the wings with the correct dihedral and build the rear part of the cockpit visible through the windows behind the sliding limousine cabin. Additionally, I modified the air outlets in the engine compartment to be adequate for the early production series, corrected the shell ejector outlets, drilled holes for the gun outlets, adjusted the landing gear wells, installed landing gear strut actuators, added cables, and installed the formation lights on the wingtips. And so Dora Wings will do it all better anyway (I hope).

Scratchbuilt intake
Corrected headrest
Corrected wheel wells, ejector holes

Painted with acrylics from the Lifecolor set, and in my opinion, it turned out very close to the original, compared to the colours of the CR-714 in the Polish Aviation Museum collection. The cockades were painted with Bilmodel paints (they are great). Decals are from Berna Decals – very difficult to work with.

I hope you like it!

Hubert
